The inaugural meeting of ISO/TC 346 on mechanical energy storage technology took place in Guangzhou, Guangdong province of China, on January 5, 2024. Dr. Tian Shihong, Vice Minister of SAMR and Administrator of SAC, attended and addressed the meeting.

ISO/TC 346 is the first ISO technical committee in the energy storage field. It was stressed at the meeting that the secretariat should get familiar with the ISO Directives and technical procedures of ISO as soon as possible, understand the principles and ideas of international standardization work, align with the development trends of international standardization, and improve the performance capability in accordance with the requirements of ISO.

Besides, the secretariat should fulfill its responsibilities and mission to build an open platform for international standards projects and international meetings, as well as to assemble international experts to develop relevant international standards together.

It was required at the meeting that the secretariat should always bear in mind the working principle of ISO, which is based on consensus. The secretariat should actively create a friendly work atmosphere, attract more experts and scholars from domestic and foreign standardization bodies to participate in the international standardization activities on mechanical energy storage, and develop more advanced and applicable international standards centered on the innovative development of mechanical energy technology, contributing Chinese wisdom to the establishment of the international standards system in the energy storage field.
