By the end of 2006, the total number of national standards had reached 21,410, among which 3,084 are mandatory standards, accounting for 14.41%; 18,231 are voluntary standards, accounting for 85.15%; 95 are technical specifications.

Based on the contents of standsrds, 1,686 standards concern safety, public health, environment protection, accounting for 7.87%; 13,163 standards concern basis, methodology, management and so on, accounting for 61,48%; 6,561 are product standards, accounting for 30.64%.

By the end of 2006, 9,931 of the national standards had been adopted from international standards and advanced foreign standards, among which, 5,064 were from ISO, 2,075 from IEC, 314 from ISO/IEC, 50 from ITU, 2,428 were other adoptions.

By the end of 2006, registered sector standards had totaled to 33,552, while the registered local standards had come to 10,304.
