As the Spring Festival of the Dragon Year 2012 is around the corner, here, on behalf of SAC, I would like to send my new year’s greeting to all friends who gave their care and support to standardization in China, all fellow workers in the standardization field around the world, and colleagues from ISO and IEC. Wish all of you a lucky year and a successful career!

   In the past year, standardization workers in China and their counterparts around the world have together made new contributions to the international standardization cause. After China became a permanent member of ISO in 2008, Chinese national committee’s membership of the IEC was upgraded to Group A status in 2011. China will shoulder more responsibilities and make more contributions to the international standardization cause. Here, I would like to thank all IEC members for their support and SMB of IEC for its trust. Under the guidance of the concept of openness, cooperation and common interest, we will actively participate in international standardization and push forward the development of international standardization towards the direction of Simpler, Faster and Better, letting standards contribute more to the world.

    SAC just released its 12th Five-Year Plan for the development of standardization in China, outlining the guiding principles, development objectives, key tasks and supporting measures for the standardization work in the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015). During this period, under the guidance of the working principle of “systematic management, key breakthroughs, overall improvement”, we will focus our work in areas of agriculture, manufacture, service industry, energy, resources, environmental protection, strategic emerging industries, social management and public service, further perfect standards systems, improve the quality of standards, enhance the effectiveness of standards implementation, participate more widely in international standardization, push forward the reform and innovation of standards systems and mechanisms, lay a solid foundation for the development of standardization, promote the overall quality and benefit of standardization development and facilitate the construction of an innovative country and a country strong in quality, realizing a substantial increase of standards’ contribution to the economic and social development.

    At last, wish all standardization workers in the world a happy new year! Wish the international standardization cause a bright future!
