The themed activity of World Standards Day 2022 was held in Beijing on October 14 in virtual form, which reviewed the progresses made since the National Standardization Development Outline was implemented a year ago.
The meeting was addressed by Dr. Tian Shihong, Vice-Minister of State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and Administrator of Standardization Administration of China (SAC).
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was convened in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to standardization work, and General Secretary Xi Jinping has given important instructions on standardization for many times, providing a direction and foundation for standardization work in new circumstances, said Dr. Tian in his address.
He emphasized that the theme of this year's WSD is "a shared vision for a better world", which echoes with China's policy of promoting high-quality development and the people's wishes for a better life. Standardization is essential to drive industrial upgrading and lay a solid economic foundation; safeguard the green homeland and build a solid ecological barrier; optimize public services and strengthen the security capability; as well as contribute to village revitalization and improve the quality of life.
Tian also pointed out that high-quality development needs the support of digital technologies, and a shared vision for a better world is inseparable from digital empowerment. "Standardization in the digital era", the theme of this year's WSD in China, is designed to promote safer digital information and more effective digital connectivity, and create more reliable digital products and more preferable digital environment with standardization.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Shu Yinbiao, President of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Dr. Zhang Xiaogang, former President of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and experts and representatives from China Standardization Expert Committee, associations, research institutions and enterprises from relevant industries and different regions.
