To further ensure the safety of water supplies, SAMR (SAC) recently released two national standards, GB/T 4706.114-2024, Safety of household and similar electrical appliances—Part 114: Particular requirements for drinking water treatment equipment, and GB/T 4706.120-2024, Safety of household and similar electrical appliances—Part 120: Particular requirements for UV radiation water treatment appliances, which will be officially implemented on September 1, 2026.

The above two national standards put forward special safety requirements for drinking water treatment equipment and UV radiation water treatment appliances respectively based on the general safety requirements in the mandatory national standard of GB 44246-2024, Household and similar electrical appliances, electrical parts of sporting goods and electric toys—Safety technical specification.

GB/T 4706.114-2024 strengthens the requirements for abnormal operation, structure, radiation, toxicity and similar hazards, according to the product structure, usage environment and other aspects of drinking water treatment equipment. GB/T 4706.120-2024 increases the requirements for UV radiation water treatment appliances to prevent the dangers of electric shock, overheating and fire, mechanical hazards, radiation, toxicity and other aspects, in different application scenarios including swimming pool and aquarium for water sterilization.

The standards will provide technical support for the design, manufacturing, usage, maintenance, inspection and testing, as well as market regulation of water treatment equipment, helping improving their quality and safety level in China.
