The 2nd China-ASEAN International Standardization Forum Held in Nanning

The 2nd China-ASEAN International Standardization Forum was held on September 11 in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, which was themed with "Jointly promoting standards connectivity, Supporting sustainable development and cooperation". 
 
The event was addressed by Dr. Tian Shihong, Vice-Minister of State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and Administrator of Standardization Administration of China (SAC), and Li Bin, Vice Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China.
 
The year 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the dialogue relationship between China and ASEAN. In the past three decades, the bilateral trade has increased more than 80 times, making each other the biggest trade partner. And substantial achievements on standards work have also been made in the aspects such as facilitating sustainable development, supporting connectivity, contributing to epidemic prevention and control as well as improving the capability to serve market entities, Dr. Tian pointed out. 
 
He stressed that China and ASEAN shall continue to enhance the connectivity of standards, set up stable cooperation mechanism through standards, make joint efforts to establish sustainable international standard system, and give full play to the role of standards in promoting the implementation of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
 
Li Bin proposed several suggestions, including pushing the compatibility of standards, and promoting integrative development; deepening the sharing of achievements, and establishing a series of overseas standardization demonstration projects; enhancing talent cultivation, and building a world-class standardization expert training center; and expanding cooperation channels, and realizing coordinated development of international standards and innovation.
 
At the event, the standardization cooperation achievements of the Guangxi ASEAN Standardization Research Center and the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Myanmar was released. The International Training Center for Standardization (Nanning) and the China-ASEAN Standard Cloud Platform were also launched. 
 
During the event, Sauw Kook Choy, ISO Vice-President (Technical Management), and Pg Suridah Pg Haji Sulaiman, Chair of ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) gave their address in video form. And the officials, experts and other representatives from China and ASEAN countries such as Brunei, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar presented keynote speeches and reports. 
 
The event, co-hosted by SAMR (SAC) and People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and co-organized by Department of Standards Innovative Management of SAMR (SAC) and Guangxi Administration for Market Regulation. It was attended by 160 participants including officials from SAMR and local government and representatives in the standardization field at home and abroad.
