The opening ceremony of the 47th Plenary and Workshops of the ISO Committee on Consumer Policy (ISO/COPOLCO) was held in Haikou City, capital of South China’s Hainan Province on May 26. Deng Zhiyong, Vice Minister of SAMR and Administrator of SAC, Li Feng, Vice Governor of Hainan Provincial Peoples Government, and Eunsook Moon, Chair of ISO/COPOLCO, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

International standards serve as an important technical foundation for the global governance system and the growth of economic and trade cooperation. Focusing on the concerns of consumers worldwide, the COPOLCO has played a pivotal role in facilitating consumer participation, advancing international cooperation on consumer protection, and improving international standards rules concerning consumer policies.

China attaches great importance to consumer protection and standardization in the consumption sector, actively supports various work of the COPOLCO, and consistently advances alignment and mutual promotion between domestic consumption governance and international standardization activities. By the end of 2025, China had launched approximately 230 projects for national standards development and revision in the areas of consumption and people’s livelihood, covering key areas such as consumer product quality and safety, service quality, digital consumption, age-friendly adaptation and children’s safety.

The event covered topics such as the protection of consumer rights and interests in the digital era, new forms, scenarios and models of service consumption, standardization-enabled integrated development of manufacturing and service industries, and high-quality development of service trade driven by standardization. It was pointed out that these topics responded to global consumption trends and aligned with practical priorities including improving consumption environment, boosting consumer confidence and upgrading consumption quality.

Over 120 participants attended the event, including officials from relevant departments of SAMR, representatives from Hainan Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, and China National Institute of Standardization, as well as professionals from domestic and foreign standardization bodies, consumer organizations, industrial institutions and research institutes.
