Standardization Initiatives Improve Consumption Quality and Benefit All People

Since 2025, SAMR (SAC) has accelerated the supply of high-quality standards to better meet diverse consumption demands of people. More than 660 national standards concerning consumer goods and services have been issued to advance the upgrading of standards, and leverage the fundamental and leading role of standards in ensuring consumption safety, improving service quality, optimizing the consumption environment, and boosting consumer confidence.

 

Safety-related standards are developed to build stronger defense for consumption safety. Twenty-four mandatory national standards, including GB 34272-2025, Specification for safety of small amusement device, GB 24407-2025, Safety technical specifications of special school bus, GB 18580-2025, Decorating and refurbishing materials for interior use—Limit on formaldehyde emission of wood-based panels and their products, and GB 26572-2025, Requirements for restricted use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products, have been issued to tighten safety and technical requirements for key products such as amusement facilities, school buses, wood-based panels and electronic products, and effectively safeguard peoples health and property safety.

 

The digital-intelligent and customized standards are developed to stimulate new vitality in quality consumption. Twenty-seven national standards, such as GB/T 45231-2025, Intelligent bed, GB/T 45068.2-2025, Digital fitting systems—Performance evaluation protocol—Part 2: Virtual garment representation, and GB/T 45937-2025, Customized manufacturing for household electrical appliances—Demand side management, have been issued to systematically regulate technical requirements and evaluation methods of intelligent, digital and personalized products, promote supply innovation, experience upgrading and quality improvement, and unlock consumption potential.

 

“Senior- and child-friendly standards are provided to build a better suitable environment. Thirty-six national standards for elderly products and services, including GB/T 46015-2025, Elderly oriented design furniture—Guidelines for the design, GB/T 45919-2025, Technology requirements for elderly-oriented of smart multimedia terminal, and GB/T 46401-2025, Guidelines for care of the elderly with cognitive impairment in senior care organization, have been issued to improve the quality life for the elderly. Eight mandatory national standards, including GB 46523-2025, General safety requirements for children’s products, and GB 6675 series for safety of toys, together with 25 voluntary national standards such as GB/T 45267-2025, Juvenile products—General technical requirements for swimming accessories, and GB/T 46016-2025, General technical requirements for noon break desks and chairs for primary and secondary school students, have been issued to improve the standards system for children’s products and protect the healthy growth of children.

 

Recycling standards are supplied to lead new green and low-carbon development. Seventeen national standards, including GB/T 46498-2025, Specifications for take-back service evaluation of waste and used household electrical appliances, GB/T 46488-2025, Technical specification of cyclic utilization for furniture, and GB/T 45656-2025, Specification for the usability classification of second-hand electronic products, have been issued to focus on key links such as waste product recycling, second-hand commodity circulation as well as recycling management, improve the standards system for circular consumption, and smooth the chain of consumer goods upgrading and resource recycling.

 

Service standards are strengthened to expand new frontiers in service consumption. Focusing on key areas such as consumption protection, quality services, e-commerce, express delivery and logistics, and the sharing economy, nearly 100 national standards related to service consumption, such as GB/T 18760-2025, Methods and requirements for after-sales service of consumer products, and GB/T 45995-2025, Service excellence—Assessment models and methods for user experience, have been issued to promote the upgrading of the service industry and support the expansion and improvement of service consumption. Two national standards, including GB/T 46862-2025, Basic requirements for service management of food delivery platform, have been issued to promote the regulated and healthy development of the platform economy in terms of platform pricing behavior management, merchant management, and deliverymen rights protection.
