     Update on:2024-08-22 08:53

GB/T 44160-2024, Guidance for event sustainability evaluation, was recently released by SAMR (SAC) to inherit and use the legacies and outcomes of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, and realize the maximum benefits.

The voluntary national standard, drafted by the Organizing Committee for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralymic Winter Games, is applicable to the sustainability evaluation of events such as large-scale sports events, expos and fairs, celebrations and performances, summit forums and activities.

Aimed at realizing green development, the standard sets 35 evaluation indicators in seven categories such as sustainability procurement, carbon neutrality, site utilization, as well as ecological remediation and restoration, and focuses on green and low-carbon level, ecological environment protection, reasonable utilization of resources and social responsibilities.

It provides scientific evaluation methods, divides events into three grades, and proposes indicator score calculation, evaluation grade setting and other aspects, which covers the entire process of events including bidding, preparation and organization. Besides, it highlights the systematic and forward-looking principle, and provides the reference template of evaluation reports and the questionnaire for satisfaction to help facilitate the self-evaluation and continuous improvement of organizers.

The standard serves as an active measure for implementing the UN sustainable development goals, and helps guide and promote the coordinated development of economy, society and environment when large-scale events are organized by cities and regions. It is of great guiding significance for driving the sustainable development of cities.
